This was interesting in a lot of different ways… the most obvious here is how do you describe a horizontal scroll on a vertical scroll. That’s one of the many conflicting impuses embodied in this crowd… all born out of monkeybook and being surrounded by a physical audience… who is my audience?… I think I’ll draw them and perform infront of the drawing. Today’s post also asks the guestion (more than most), which here is the real work of art? The drawing, or the film of the drawing, or the whole thing together on the blog, or what?

the response to the clip in this post on Vimeo has been facinating:

I haven’t even gotten around yet to posting to posting the documentation on Flickr.
And we have our first bid of $150. Do I hear $175?

Cela m’a encore donné beaucoup d’émotions.
I think I like the way you’ve done the video with your voice and the music but I like the painting too. Not sure why, but my first idea was : Everybody is looking in the same direction. Not everybody in fact but who could take the picture if not. (I hope you’ll get some others bids. I didn’t know that term before reading it here.)

    Hm.
    Im perplexed.
    Im an artist as well..
And dont get me wrong.. Its a very cool idea for a picture.
I just didnt enjoy it due to the extreme lack of detail..

    And you’re asking 150 for…. that? haha

Im sorry bro.. If anyone gives u 150 for that.. they are mentally insane.. and hold onto them as long as possible.

    Good idea.. lack of talent..
However.. art that can be viewed as good or bad IS good artwork.
    So good job man..

    You really showed me.

    175 baby!

A bid makes an excellent retort!
Detail to me is a question of Forest and trees… music is a question of fallling one into the other.
    Do I hear $200?

I really like your work. It is intimidating and inspiring at the same time. My blog is different, my talents lesser, but we seem to share some ideas. I take photos, make drawings, record music and audio. All trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Well I thought this was really inspired and I like the execution and everything. You should sell a dvd with the above ‘making of’ with it. Loving the stop frame stuff.

I was moved by this video. My 12-year old daughter who loves to create artwork was really impressed with it. I got the impression that the lack of detail (as someone else commented on) represented how we might lose our individuality on the internet. It’s such a huge place and everyone is there…..The shots were inspiring (however I was able to see your camera shadow in some of them), but the music pulled it all together. Incredible job.

I Can’t afford any more than 200, at the moment. However I’d be happy to pay that! I Love the simplicity of the piece. Because it’s not about “Realism” It’s about Humanity, It’s being apart of the human mosaic . A profound statement made with the simplest of lines.

And by the by. I’d love one with a afro in it! LOL

It long since sold… sadly, or not so

Hi Alex- It is elegant in conception and execution. It is worth more than money.
Hope I can afford to buy some of your work some day:)
